The anticipated effective date for the 2018 codes is July 1, 2020

Group 2 Code Change Proposal Deadline Set
The State Building Code Council has set an April 15, 2019 deadline for Group 2 code change proposals. The codes included in  Group 2 are the IRC, IMC (and IFGC, NFPA 54 and NFPA 58), UPC and the Washington State Energy Code-Residential.

Interim Changes for WSEC, IBC and IFC Go Into Effect July 1, 2019
The State Building Code Council has adopted changes to clarify provisions in the 2015 WSEC-Commercial, add provisions to the IBC and IFC pertaining to heavy timber construction, and to add provisions for use of NFPA 130 for transit and passenger rail systems. The changes will go into effect July 1, 2019. See the Rulemaking page for details of these changes.

The State Building Council
is a state agency created by the legislature to provide independent analysis and objective advice to the legislature and the Governor's Office on state building code issues.  The Council establishes the minimum building, mechanical, fire, plumbing and energy code requirements necessary to promote the health, safety and welfare of the people of the state of Washington, by reviewing, developing and adopting the state building code.
